Line Drawing

June 18, 2025 - June 18, 2025

A line drawing spec is the first stage of your garment.

It’s your idea on how you want the garment to look and you must give some guidelines to your pattern cutter so they have a base to work from.  Remember your pattern cutter is not your designer.  The pattern cutter can interpret your one dimensional drawing into 3D for you but they need some core measurements to start off with

Bust, wasit and the three hips (upper, mid and lower) must be specified. It then means that there is a great chance of the first fit sample being right first time.  Pattern cutting time is expensive and we are looking for efficiencies so lets not keep refitting and retweaking garments aim to have a line drawing that is accurate as possible.

This is adetailed spec The designer has itemised the width of the straps and the detail of how many pintucks and buttons.  Its a very good standard to try to work to.
