A general method for a self neatening cuff is:

  • Place the two pieces of cuff together with the right sides facing each other.
  • Pin onto the fitting lines of the cuff.
  • Machine stitch along the fitting line starting and finishing at exactly the same point.
  • Remove pins and press.
  • Turn the cuffs through to the right side easing out the points on the corners.
  • Bring the seam up onto the fold and machine stitch into position.

When sewing an open or shaped cuff follow the same steps as before, place the two pieces together with right sides facing each other. Pin into position and machine stitch on the lines of the cuff. Remove pins and press. Trim the seam allowance to 0.6cm. Turn the cuff through to the right side easing out the corners. A good way of easing out the corners is by gently using the point of a pair of scissors or pulling out with a pin. Bring the seam up onto the fold pin and machine stitch into position.
