Couture Measurement Chart

This is an excellent chart because it highlights the different measurements that are required for garment and body spec-ing but also shows you where the measurments are taken from and to.

Many designers do not measure correctly or measure from the correct points on the body. As an example there are three hip measurements, top, mid and lower hip with the lower hip normally being the biggest measurement. When you are working on patterns its not enough to say ’Mid Hip is 95cm’ you need to specify ’Mid Hip 12 cm from natural waist point is 95 cm’.

Please think to yourself if there is a chance that anything will go wrong with your pattern cutter or factory then it will. Do not leave any mishaps to chance. Be totally organised and prepared.
