The STRC offers new enterprises and small to medium enterprises access to state of the art CAD/CAM design and pattern cutting specialist technology. Funded by the Knowledge Exploitation Fund as part of the Objective One funded programme, the project enables businesses to operate more effectively, and to assist in their development and success.
The centre also offers a bureau service that is available to companies within and outside of the Objective One area. This service covers many areas of design, such as repeat print design, colour reduction, texture mapping, knit and weave design, illustration, technical illustration, mood boards and other projects identified to meet individual requirements. A pattern grading and lay planning service is also offered at competitive rates.
The Shared Technology Resource Centre offers GERBER AccuMark pattern cutting technology, and Marker Making for lay planning and costing, along with GERBER Artworks packages for design and presentation. Trained and experienced staff provide support and expertise. Companies who work with Gerber systems throughout the UK and Globally have the added advantage of sending and receiving work via electronic mail, which cuts delivery times.
The STRC is the only one of it’s kind in Wales: new designers can therefore take advantage of industry standard CAD/CAM and specialist software in design and pattern cutting, which they would otherwise not have access to. The centre aims to encourage innovation and support for developing design ideas through technological application, and to develop portfolios of samples for marketing purposes.
Recently, the STRC has successfully assisted designers exhibiting at major fashion events and competitions globally. The STRC has also played a vital role in the development of several new fashion design businesses, in addition to the successful transition of designs into wholesale for other local designers.
Awareness Raising
The Shared Technology Resource Centre carries out a number of awareness raising activities, such as open days and technology transfer workshops. Such events are designed to allow companies the opportunity to come into the centre and experience the technology for themselves, see demonstrations and discuss ideas with staff. Open days and workshops are free of charge and are held on a monthly basis.
