20-11-2019

Newsletter 20th November 2019

Dear all,

Tailoring Academy Launch Success!

The team are glowing after last Thursday’s (14th Nov) excellent Tailoring Academy launch. The event attracted over 140 guests with welcome drinks and canapés along with the chance to experience various live demonstrations and interactive sessions.

Nick Beighton, CEO of ASOS.com, was first up as guest speaker he said: “ASOS has long been a supporter of ‘made in the UK’ brands. In 2008, ASOS provided Fashion-Enter with funding for their Stitching Academy and then further funding for the Fashion Technology Academy in 2015. We are delighted now to see that the success of high level technical training has continued to extend to the new Tailoring Academy which will act as a hub linking local talent to experts, specialist training, professional development courses, equipment and opportunities. ASOS is very proud to be part of this innovation.”

Fashion-Enter ltd CEO Jenny Holloway added: What a night – thank-you to the 140 plus attendees that celebrated the launch of the Tailoring Academy. Nick was totally grounded, spoke from the heart and totally understands what we try and do for our learners – his support and guidance has been incredibly valuable over the last ten years. Then a huge thank you to our amazing student speakers – Denise Watson and Marquel Williams who turned up for the occasion with stunning green hair!!! The launch is a true celebration of how public and private investment can work. So many thank you’s to so many people, however I have to say to the FEL team “You are truly Awesome!” How lucky are we to have some an amazing team! Now its time to train a future generation of tailors!”

After the event Jocelyn Stuart-Grumbar from one of the additional funders ‘Clothworkers’ Company’ commented: “Thank-you so much for a really inspiring evening in the most amazing company and surroundings.  All four speakers were so powerful. I was delighted to see how the whole thing has taken shape.  What a great environment to work in! I even had a go on the pocket welting machine!

“Many congratulations and the very best of luck with your brilliant endeavour to replenish the pool of talent and skills in the UK. Many people will have been involved in getting everything to this state of readiness and in organising the event.  Do please pass on my appreciation.  Clothworkers’ are delighted to be a minute part of something so exciting.”

Become A FashionCapital Member

“FashionCapital had been absolutely excellent in supporting me through each process of building my clothing brand up. I have never done anything like this before so it can be very daunting, but working with FashionCapital they have taught me new things I didn’t know and are showing me the steps I need to take to build a successful brand. I have attended many of their workshops, which are very useful and provide lots of information, you also get to network with people that have or are working within the industry – which is fantastic. FashionCapital provide excellent mentoring as well, which is brilliant for a start-up because they are with you every step of the way and have helped me believe in myself. The membership has allowed me to get access to workshops, fabrics, use of their studio and much more so I would definitely recommend it.” – Roxanne
