Newsletter 7th September 2022

20 Years Online!

Did you know www.fashioncapital.co.uk has been going for twenty years! The online fashion portal first launched in the late-summer of 2002, when the internet had approximately 10,000 websites as opposed to some 45 billion today! Technology and the internet have certainly come a long way since 2002 however our core ethos remains the same; support, training and services for the UK fashion sector.

Leicester Academy Smashes First Year Targets

FCFTA Leicester has achieved so much in its first academic year – 67 Level 1 Awards in Fashion and Textiles and 108 SEG Awards in Workers’ Rights and Labour Exploitation. Yesterday, 6th September, Cllr Adam Clarke was at the Academy to present certificates to some of our recent learners.

He commented: “It’s so important the skills you learn for yourself and also for the city, the work you do keeps the city working and that makes me proud and happy to be here, not only for your achievements as learners but the fact that you will take that learning into a career or into further learning.”

Contact: Education@fashion-enter.com to enquire or sign up to Leicester’s courses.

Saturday Maker Classes at the FC Designer Workspace

From Saturday 17th (and every other Saturday) we will be opening the doors to support the local Islington community. For three hours 10am – 1pm FC Designer Workspace residents Angus and George will be on hand to open up the studio for residents to use. This costs £5 per hour and accommodates up to 20 individuals. Please note this service is not for absolute beginners; you will need some experience of using industrial machines.

If you are interested in this latest initiative from Fashion-Enter in collaboration with Islington Council, then please email education@fashion-enter.com

Rental Increase at the FC Designer Workspace

Throughout the first year of opening the FC Designer Workspace FEL was able to rent out the machines for free, however with such a massive increase in the cost of electricity we now have to charge to cover costs. The commercial cost for hiring an industrial machine is £300 a week so our prices still represent excellent value plus all machines are available.

As of  30th September costs will be increasing to:

£6.00 per hour

£40 per day

£175 a week

Please note that Islington residents have 15% off these prices upon proof of residency.

If you have any further questions or would like to book please email: FCdesignerworkspace@fashion-enter.com

Fashion Roundtable – Regenerating British Wool

This Thursday 8th September Fashion-Enter will be joining a Fashion Roundtable discussion with key players in the industry to get a better understanding of the barriers of using Welsh wool in the fashion supply chain.

Jenny Holloway CEO at Fashion-Enter Ltd (FEL) will discuss next steps in the development of FEL’s Novelle Yarn, mixing recycled PET with Welsh fleece and their ground-breaking process. Other key players within the sector will also share more about their work with Welsh wool along with Fashion Roundtable and their wool programme. More news on this to follow.
