#Islington4Women

Today, 18th August, Development Director Jenni Sutton took part in the #Islington4Women walk and talk community event. The morning event began at the Andover Estate and continued along the Seven Sisters Road stopping off at various locations to openly talk about places of safety as well as areas where safety could be improved. The group were also invited to the FC Designer Collective shop on Fonthill Road and the soon to open workspaces where Jenni informed them about the various training and employment opportunities. Islington4Women is about encouraging support, inspiration and empowerment.

FC Designer Workspace – Launch Date Set

We are super excited to launch our new workspace in Islington on the 2nd September! Working in unison with our retail shop on Fonthill Road the two spaces will provide invaluable support and resources to anyone looking for a career in fashion and garment making or setting up their own creative business. Omnichannel Strategy Masterclass Tomorrow

On-site Alterations & Repairs

Leyla, our highly skilled and experienced seamstress is providing an excellent alterations and repairs service at our Fonthill Road shop. If you have an item of clothing in need of her expertise then please pop in and discuss what you need.

Free Sewing Class Dates September

Today Leyla is teaching local residents how to repair and upcycle existing garments in the final instalment of the booked-out August sewing classes. Following on we can now offer free sewing tuition to borough of Islington residents throughout September at the Fonthill Road shop. These take place on Wednesday mornings, please note places are limited and do get booked up quickly, the sessions are as follows:
8th September 10.00 – 12.00 – Using Industrial Sewing Machines
This two-hour masterclass is ideal for beginners wanting to learn how to sew using industrial machines. You will be taught how to thread and operate industrial sewing machines.
15th September 10.00 – 12.00 – Basic Sewing Techniques
In this two-hour masterclass learn how to produce a range of seam and hems with the over locker industrial sewing machine and coverstitch machine. Ideal for beginners wanting to learn basic sewing techniques.
22nd September 10.00 – 12.00 – Repair and Upcycle
Do you have a garment that needs repairing or upcycling? Learn basic repair techniques with an item you bring in from home

Saturday Sewing Club

Open to all…Leyla also runs a Saturday Sewing Club where you can gain some invaluable stitching skills that will enable you to repair, reuse and upcycle items from your own wardrobe. Every Saturday Leyla can offer one-to-one tuition covering a range of topics including: using an industrial sewing machine, inserting a zip, basic sewing techniques, alterations and more. Sessions take place from 10.00 – 14.00 and cost £20 per hour.
