Creative Collaborations

30-04-2004

Eley Kishimoto……Collier Campbell……..Antoni & Alison…..Julian and Sophie….  Many designers choose to work with a partner and to form a company together. CREATIVE COLLABORATIONS is a series of four panel discussions about working collaboratively, focusing in particular on such partnerships and the benefits of working closely with a fellow creative mind.

Here is a unique opportunity to hear, at first-hand, how creative partnerships work. With a range of excellent guest speakers, we consider the various different permutations of a partnership; husband & wife, sisters, partners, colleagues & friends. Discussion will revolve around such questions as; how do partnerships develop and change? Establishing a joint identity; is it more than a label? How are conflicts resolved in such a small team? How do you divide roles and responsibilities?

May 12th: Sisters Susan Collier and Sarah Campbell have been running their famous textile company Collier Campbell for 40 years, and have made an outstanding creative contribution to UK design. We are delighted to have this opportunity to talk to them about their distinguished career and explore their successful working partnership.

May 26th: Julian and Sophie – Julian Roberts and Sophie Cheung – are the new kids on the block – a duo whose innovative approach to fashion design has made a huge impact in a short time. Also relatively new to the fashion scene are Belle and Bunty – Alice Shreeve and Hannah Coniam – who joined forces when they were still at the London College of Fashion. We will also be joined by designer Ray Harris and textile artist Carole Waller, who will describe their unique collaboration.

June 9th: We are very happy to welcome Eley Kishimoto, the highly successful international fashion design partnership of Mark Eley and Wakako Kishimoto, whose clothes and accessories are distinguishable by their gorgeous colours and patterns. We will also be joined by Paul Simmons, who – with Alastair McAuley, set up Timorous Beasties, the Glasgow based innovative textiles & interiors partnership.

June 23rd: The final talk features Antoni & Alison – Antoni Burakowski and Alison Roberts . Known for their witty and ironic designs, their label is fast becoming a global cult. In addition, the wonderful Bernstock & Spiers, which was started by Paul Bernstock and Thelma Spiers in 1982; whose irreverent and quirky clothing are perennially popular.
