Stitching Academy Success!

08-12-2016

Stitching Academy students John and Eniko have recently been offered apprenticeship roles with gender fluid luxury brand ONEBYME having successfully completed their stitching academy courses here at the Fashion Technology Academy.  Proven to have equipped both young students with the skills and knowledge necessary, not only are the students extremely pleased, but all here at the FTA are over joyed for both.

Both students joined our Stitching Academy For Tomorrow’s Designers course after hearing about it through their local jobcentre and were keen to enrol to learn new skills.

Screen Shot 2016-12-08 at 9.56.50 amJohn came to the Stitching Academy with no prior knowledge however after only being on the course for 3 weeks he told us “I have been on the course for 3 weeks and have already learnt an incredible amount of information…”.  When asked what he hoped to do after completing his level 1 course he informed us “I hope to progress onto the level 2 Stitching Academy course and then carry out an apprenticeship so I can gain hands on experience.”

Eniko joined the Stitching Academy after attending our open day. Enrolling in November, she told us “having attended the open day I was keen to enrol on the course which will allow me to develop my skills and learn how to use industrial machines.”.  Similar to John she aspired to complete an apprenticeship and now she has been hired!

Both students will complete a wide range of tasks on their apprenticeship.  From supporting the head pattern cutter to supporting creative directors and founders Elsa and Miles on projects.  With the ability to gain hands on experience in fashion cycle, experience London Fashion Week and the production of the brands Autumn Winter 2017 collection the students will see themselves gain invaluable knowledge in a practical environment.

Jenni Sutton Development Manager commented; “We’re so grateful to Creative Skill set, JP Morgan, Capit B and Finery for making this free course to such promising and talented designers. We have supported designers for a total of 13 years now and we’re constantly finding designers are great creative gurus but they don’t always understand the construction if garments.  You can’t really be an outstanding designer if you don’t understand how a garment fits and is internally constructed.  Our Stitching Academy provides real skills for Tomorrows ‘ Designers.”

On the student’s success Jenny Holloway commented “Both of these young students completed our Stitching Academy course with flying colours and have now been chosen to be the next apprentices for ONEBYME!  Huge congratulations to both – we are extremely proud of your hard work!”
