Profile: La Modiste Modeste

16-04-2004

Anyone who has ever dragged their weary feet around Oxford Street looking for accessories to match their dream outfit for a wedding or day at the races will appreciate this label.  La Modiste Modeste offers hats, headpieces, hair ornaments, co-ordinating handbags and even bridal accessories.  To make sure the boys are not left out, ties and matching cufflinks are also available

La Modiste Modeste’s couture service makes design suggestions to suit your own personal style and face shape and then makes them in the perfect colour and size.  The made-to-measure aspect means you can remove your headgear for the wedding breakfast without worrying about having a groove in your forehead from an ill-fitting hat.

Having said that, this year most people are opting for headpieces, or ‘fascinators’ as they used to be known.  Not only are they easier to wear than hats but everyone can see your face in the wedding photos and if you are going to the races, you can actually see the horses rather than just the underside of your hat brim.

The designer takes inspiration from the colour and feel of textiles and the glamour and style associated with fashion icons of the forties and fifties who would never have been seen out without being totally co-ordinated from head to toe.

London Fashion Forum’s boutique in Kingly Court, Carnaby Street stocks a selection of pieces from the label’s Summer couture & ready to wear collections.

Plans are afoot to extend the current ready-to-wear range, which will be sold through a number of independent womenswear boutiques.

Contact the designer direct on 07932 678003 www.modistemodeste.com to arrange a free consultation.

Prices range from £95 for a headpiece and £150 for a hat.
