Fashion Enter Launches Level 2 Apprenticeship

The Level 1 entry qualification was written by Fashion Enter in association with Creative Skillset and ABC Awards. The accredited qualification is a six week course held at the ASOS.com supported Stitching Academy; part of the The Factory. The course provides learners with basic sewing skills for all industrial sewing machines, a review of how to inspect finished goods for that all-important quality benchmark and health and safety in the workplace. Once this course is completed learners will now be able to progress onto a Level 2 apprenticeship qualification where they will also be placed with an employer in industry during their one year Level 2 qualification.

This Level 2 apprenticeship qualification will build on the success of the Level 1 course but will also cover basic pattern cutting, quality control and manufacturing techniques whilst the learner is also working four days a week with an employer; this allows the learner to gain a unique insight into the industry whilst learning on the job the correct way!  Five candidates have already been selected to join the programme, with two of them successfully securing jobs with Rosie’s Fashions and 113 Clothing Ltd.

Wendy Coley, Head of Learning commented: ‘This development is so exciting. Having written the Level 1 qualification and seeing its success over the last year it was a natural progression for us to provide the Level 2 qualification. This way we can now ensure learners continue their training with an increased chance of gaining sustained employment in the industry.’

Fashion Enter is also the UK’s leading training provider for the Level 3 and Level 4 Fashion and Textiles apprenticeship programme and has already placed apprentices with employers such as ASOS, Marks & Spencer, River Island, New Look and Topshop. The Level 3 is a 24 month course which again is a progression on from the Level 2.. The learner is taken through the complete garment life cycle and trained to understand the role of a garment technologist whilst working with an employer.

The Level 3 is the equivalent of two A-Levels and the Level 4 is equivalent of a foundation degree. Director Jenny Holloway commented: “To see how the trainees develop from Level 1 onwards is so rewarding. We have some outstanding success stories such as Khadra Osman who now works for M&S on the Level 3 apprenticeship. Khadra started on the level 1 six week course and she has just blossomed. Today’s learning has to have that right balance between working on the job and learning from experts as well as that formal learning but in a fun relaxed environment.
