FC Designer Workspace Residents Open Day
On Tuesday 14th September the Fashion-Enter team welcomed London borough of Islington residents to the recently refurbished FC Designer Workspace on Durham Road.
This innovative FC Designer Workspace provides business and skills development for the local community. Along with affordable studio space to rent other integrated services include; tailored business support, mentoring, masterclasses, an on-site photography studio, state-of-the-art production facilities, networking events and exhibitions.
Residents were invited to pop in between 10am – 2pm to find out about what the space can offer. It also provided the opportunity to:
• Pick up some free fabric
• ‘Have a go’ on the sewing machines
• Have a tour of the space
• Learn about free training and job opportunities
• Meet the team
This initiative is a part of a long term project with Islington Council, Mayor of London and LEAP to support the borough’s designers and creatives.
Taylor, lives on the Andover Estate, he commented that this space is what his dreams are made of! He has now signed up to join the Level 1 Stitching Academy course to improve his understanding of garment construction to follow his dreams of becoming a designer.
Teresa Connolly, Outreach Support Practitioner at Bright Future said: “It was so lovely to meet you today and to be shown around and informed of the fabulous work that will be carried out there. I can’t wait to share details with my colleagues and the families that we support in the area, it is such an exciting opportunity.”
Margaret added: “Thank-you for the talk and tour of the new workspace yesterday, it was really informative and helpful.”
The official launch for this innovative FC Designer Workspace will now take place on the 17th September. The evening event will include drinks, networking, words from Jules Pipe and Jeremy Corbyn, sewing demonstrations and tours of the space.
