Bath Spa University Students visit the Factory
The 50 students were split into two groups and whilst one group spent the morning with us being taken around the Factory the other group were lucky enough to see inside luxury knitwear factory the Albion Knitting Company currently knitting for Alexander McQueen, Givenchy, See by Chloe, Nicole Fahri and other designers and luxury brands.
The two-hour visit with us involved a complete review of Fashion Enter, including what it takes to be a designer and how to deal with manufacturers – a real insight for the young budding fashion designers. The students were taken on a tour of the garment life cycle where they could see watch each process from the cutting to the stitching to the quality control take place. The students asked lots of great questions to ensure they really made the most of their time here.
Here are just a few comments we received afterwards:
‘I have learnt the whole process of how garments are manufactured and roles within the factory, also the importance of relationships between buyers, designers and manufacturers. I really enjoyed the experience and found it very helpful to be shown how everything works. I find it very impressive how much you want to help new designers.’ Sarah
‘Excellent experience to see what happens in this side of the industry!’ Abigail
‘I have learnt a lot about UK factories, workers, how to set up a company, what to think about, Health & Safety, cabbage, commercial brands, career options in the industry. I really enjoyed the talk which really inspired me.’ Gemma
‘Really pleasant atmosphere and completely insightful and interesting. Lots of insights into the world of manufacturing’ Samantha
