Prevent: Counter – Terrorism Strategy – Recognition and Support

March 18, 2025 - March 18, 2025
On Monday, 10th February, Tishya Desai, a Prevent Education Officer from Haringey Council, delivered a session on Prevent with the Fashion-Enter Ltd (FEL) tutors across all campuses. Prevent is part of the UK’s counter-terrorism strategy, which prevents people from becoming involved in or supporting terrorism. FEL works with numerous individuals – learner’s, apprentices and staff and therefore has a moral obligation to ensure safety and support.
The objectives of the session:
- Understand what Prevent aims to do.
- Think about who might be vulnerable to radicalisation and extremism.
- Recognise when a vulnerable person might be in need of help.
- Know what kinds of help and support are available.
It was a very informative and engaging session, with lots of valuable discussions and examples on radicalisation and extremism, how to identify signs in the classroom, and how to report a concern and make a Prevent referral.
Lan Leeder, Head of Education, said: “This lesson on Prevent was an excellent refresher. It offered valuable insights for teachers on recognising signs and making appropriate Prevent referrals.”
