Time To Change or Die

28-08-2019

Newsletter 28th August 2019

Dear all,

Environmental concerns, slave labour and retails collapse across the UK has left many questions surrounding the way the fashion industry operates. Big changes are imminent and it was a welcome step in the right direction to hear about the launch of The Fashion Pact at the G7 summit in Biarritz last weekend. President Macron asked Francois-Henri Pinault from Kering to unite 32 fashion companies including Chanel, Inditex and PVH, amounting to approximately 150 brands. The Pact revolves around environmental targets such as achieving zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, restoring biodiversity and preserving the oceans by reducing the use of plastics.

Change or Die – Rethinking Retail

Fresh thinking is exactly what the industry needs right now – the old business model of pushing of stock onto consumers does not work! The high street is becoming littered with closures and CVAs. Compare this with the performance of a ‘lean retailer’ such as Inditex with strong double-digit growth over the past decade and now the largest fashion retailer with continuing strong performance. (The Inditex Group registered net sales growth of 5% in the first quarter of 2019.)

It’s time for retailers to put the good practices of ‘lean’ into their entire enterprises, changing buying strategies now and with the support of the experts below we are bringing a high level accredited Level 5 CPPD session for leading CEO/ COO and decision making directors.

Guest speakers include representatives from:

Kaizen Institute

Farfetch

Sonae Group

FNAC

Leroy Merlin

James Stewart, Lean Director Burberry commented: “I can see first hand the importance that the Toyota business model or ‘Lean’ will have if your organisation is to survive in this industry. This happened and continues to happen in the automotive industry. As Burberry’s Director of Lean Transformation I believe there is only one way forward for retailers today. They must understand these new principals of a pull not push business model, flow V’s batch production and true customer centricity.

“This is why I’ve coordinated a top level accredited seminar with leading international speakers from some of those retailers who adopted this model. They can share their own experiences with huge success within their organisations who are now leading in their sectors of retail. I believe if retailers do not change now they will die!”

The 1-day seminar is strictly limited to ten places and will take place in October. To find out more and book a place please contact: stephanie@fashion-enter.com
