From Disused Car Park to Designer Workspace

Last Thursday 2nd September the Fashion-Enter team welcomed over 60 individuals to its fully equipped FC Designer Workspace. For the last two years FEL has been working with Islington Council, Mayor of London and LEAP to transform what was a tired, disused car park into this innovative and affordable workspace that will support the borough’s designers and creatives.

The soft launch was a great success bringing together councillor’s, local community groups, stakeholders and press. Even MP for Islington North Jeremy Corbyn rolled up his sleeves and got involved by having a go on an industrial sewing machine!

FEL Development Director Jenni Sutton said: “Today we opened the doors to the FC Designer Workspace for the community launch and it was a huge success! It was so wonderful to meet the local sewing and community groups and showcase what resources and services we can now offer to Islington residents. This is just the start of a truly visionary project supported by Islington Council, the Mayor of London and Leap.”

An official launch for this innovative FC Designer Workspace will now take place on the 17th September in line with the opening day of London Fashion Week. The evening event will include drinks, networking, Jules Pipe and Jeremy Corbyn, sewing demonstrations and tours of the space.

CEO Comment: Apprenticeships & Training Providers Seriously Jeopardised

There is so much talk from Government regarding the importance of an education for all and skills development is a necessity to improve social mobility and job creation, yet there is a mismatch between what Government states and what the reality is. As a niche training provider Fashion-Enter’s CEO Jenny Holloway discusses the difficulties training providers currently face and the issues that the Department of Education urgently needs to address. She also reveals the excellent FEL achievement rates over the past four years and how all the hard work is being jeopardised by ineffective direction from the government.
