Be Your Own Boss

First up is our free, ‘Be Your Own Boss’ Zoom masterclass. Taking place this Friday 17th January from 11am, FashionCapital / FEL CEO Jenny Holloway will present this interactive masterclass to inspire and empower those wanting to make their own path.
This session is open to all and free – you just need to register to receive your Zoom link closer to the date.
Need Direction? Breaking into Fashion Masterclass

For those wanting to work in fashion but unsure of what direction to take then the following week on Thursday 23rd January from 10am Breaking into Fashion: Myths, Realities, and Roadmaps, is the perfect masterclass for you. From career roles and education to technology and trends, hear all the options to help you decide your next move.
Affordable 1 to 4 Day Courses

This month we have a range of affordable, expert-led 1, 2 or 4 day courses that will teach you how to sew, pattern cut, and upcycle your own clothes.
Held in a creative and relaxed environment, our tutors have the experience and knowledge to set absolute beginners on their creative sewing journey.
Courses range from: Beginners Stitching Courses and Upcycling Workshops to Dress & T-Shirt Construction to Darted Bodice Pattern Cutting. Courses range from £35 – £110 and take place at our Islington or Haringey campuses.

School Uniform Repair Workshop

Hosted in partnership with Islington Council we have added a beginner-friendly, free workshop open to parents and carers of children from any school or age group.
Bring along your children’s uniforms in need of repair or alteration and our friendly team of experts will guide you. No prior sewing experience? No problem! Everyone is welcome, and all materials will be provided.
Drop-in anytime from 10am to 4pm Tuesday, 28th January at the FC Designer Collective, 113-115 Fonthill Road, London, N4 3HH. Tap here to register your interest.
Repair and Upcycle Drop-In

Yesterday, we held our January edition of the Repair and Upcycle Drop-In at our shop: FC Designer Collective on Fonthill Road. Post Christmas and the shop was bustling with activity. From trouser hemming to decorative appliqué, it was a fantastic session with a great atmosphere.

These monthly Drop-In’s are supported by Islington Council, so thanks to them we have more monthly dates available, the next is Tuesday 11th February, please register to secure your place.
Hot Desk With Us – Islington

At our FC Designer Workspace, Durham Road, Islington we have hot desking space available, perfect for those that don’t want to commit to a private studio and would like to hire by the day, week, or more. The space can provide the hire of affordable co-working desk fully equipped with laptop and WiFi, alongside industrial sewing machines / equipment at no extra cost.

Other News…
London Councillors to Tour FEL

Next Monday 20th January, FEL’s HQ doors in Haringey will open to councillors across all London boroughs for a ‘One World Living’ site visit.
One World Living is one of the themes that the London Councils collaborative Climate Programme covers. Its goal is to reduce consumption emissions by focusing on food, textiles, electrical’s and plastics.

Learner’s Voice & Next Steps

Over the last few days learners finishing up their stitching and pattern courses were provided with next steps advice and the opportunity to honestly feedback on their course. This took place with in both London and Leicester.
Lan Leeder, Head of Education said: “This session was highly interactive, featuring excellent questions, comments, and observations. Everyone is eager to learn more and is interested in the opportunities available after the course.”
