Shortlisted for a Golden Pineapple!

The Pineapples is an annual festival and awards event celebrating projects that make a positive impact on places. This year’s shortlist has been announced and the FC Designer Workspace, part of the Andover Community Workspace, a collaboration with Islington Council and Studio Partington, has been named in the ‘Creative Retrofit’ category.

The space, formerly disused garages, houses 8 studios, an Alvanon Fit Studio, hot desking space and a fully equipped learning / making area.

Jenny Holloway CEO Fashion-Enter Ltd said: “I can’t express how fantastic this programme is! We were involved from the start with Islington Council from the initial architectural plans upwards. We worked constantly with Osbourne and probably drove them mad too! It was all worth it because the space is perfect for industrial skills education and affordable studios for designers, two of which have progressed to present at London Fashion Week.

“A huge thank you to the Greater London Authority, the Good Growth Fund and Islington Council for making the affordable workspace a reality. It’s a game-changer for fashion support today and an excellent example to pass on to all boroughs.

“Wish us luck at the digital Festival of Pineapples event, 25 – 27 February.”

FEL X FAB Materials – A Productive Reuse of Textile Waste

FAB Materials offers an innovative and much-needed solution to textile waste and over the last 6-months Fashion-Enter Ltd / FashionCapital has supported the Innovate UK funded initiative.

In this latest YouTube video, FEL / FashionCapital CEO Jenny Holloway talks to the Founder and CEO of FAB Materials, John Somerville. He explains how textile scraps, those small offcuts created in the cutting process, can be gathered and upcycled to create MDF boards. These boards can be used for a wide variety of applications, including; furniture, interiors, construction, display and more. Tap here to read more on this constructive use of textile waste.

London Councillors Inspired By FEL’s Haringey Site

Following the London Councils visit to FEL’s Haringey site last week a Textiles Action Plan, in collaboration with ReLondon, will be published in the Spring. Keeping the One World Living climate work at the top of the councillors agenda London Councils have provided lots of informative material available to view and download.

FEL CEO Jenny Holloway said: What a great event! Thank you so much for engaging with us London Councils and ReLondon. We had an excellent turnout from the councils and it was such a positive experience sharing ideas, concepts and programmes.

“Legislation is changing constantly in waste and fashion and this will result in action regarding the discussed 6Rs. This is exactly where London Councils can deliver new programmes and initiatives deriving economies of scale by councils working as one! The FEL team are happy to support and collaborate on this important programme.”

This Week on FashionCapital…

The Evolution of Hoodie Design: From Functionality to Iconic Fashion Statement

And Finally…

Yesterday, 28th January, we held a HOPE-FX Open Day for those interested in joining the second edition of this award-nominated programme

Preventative initiatives such as HOPE-FX do work, and a recent study published in Lancet Child & Adolescent Health, highlights an alarming 65% increase in mental health-related admissions to general acute medical wards in England over the last decade.

The FEL team explained to the group what HOPE-FX is all about and provided case study examples from the first cohort; what they achieved, and how the project helped them with their confidence and mental health wellbeing. More on this vital project soon.

Until next time, have a great week.

From the Team at FashionCapital
