Putting Transparency at the Heart of Leicester’s Garment Sector

A major new programme backed by the Garment and Textile Workers Trust is set to strengthen UK garment manufacturing, with a particular focus on Leicester. Led by the Apparel & Textile Manufacturers Federation (ATMF) and supported by partners including Fashion-Enter Ltd, Fashion Roundtable, De Montfort University and SP&KO, the initiative will deliver economic research, advocate for UK-based public procurement, and launch a new transparency platform, In Factories We Trust.
As part of the programme, FEL’s Compliance Director, TJ Hussein, has begun visiting Leicester factories as a “critical friend”, reviewing capabilities, compliance standards, transparency and operational practices. His findings will contribute to confidential factory profiles that will help brands make informed sourcing decisions.
Commenting on the initiative, ATMF Chair and Fashion-Enter CEO Jenny Holloway said: “Through the ATMF and the factories we work as one to better the reputation of Made in the UK. What we must do now is ensure that brands, public procurement contracts and government can clearly see that Making in the UK is a profitable viable option for the future.”
TJ Hussein added: “I have been encouraged by the positive approach shown so far and look forward to working with each site over the coming weeks. My aim is to support each business to the best of my ability in helping them achieve and maintain the highest ethical compliance standards.”
