LEYF Sustainability Partners

Dedicated to high quality, affordable early years education and care, LEYF (London Early Years Foundation), is at the forefront of becoming an environmentally friendly and sustainability driven organisation. Currently LEYF collaborates with 12 like-minded organisations, and that includes Fashion-Enter Ltd.

On 5th November FEL was invited to LEYF’s first Sustainability Partner Morning Tea at their central London headquarters. It was a fantastic way for all the partners to meet and talk about future initiatives as well as celebrate LEYF’s sustainability strategy, introduced by CEO June O’Sullivan MBE, that was successfully implemented last year.

Alongside FEL partners included: Hope, Bikeworks, Cosy, Pura, SalsShoes, Scrubbingtons, The Stem and others.

FEL CEO Jenny Holloway said: “What a great meeting of minds this was, kindly organised by Nick Corlett, Sustainability Manager at LEYF.Together we put the world to rights with regards to becoming carbon neutral and leading to zero carbon footprint within the next two years. It was great to meet everyone.”

FEL at National Apprenticeship & Education Event

On November 5th, FEL and UKFT collaborated to promote the fashion and textiles industry to school leavers at the National Apprenticeship & Education Events held at Kia Oval. This was the second event in which FEL participated, with the aim of showcasing the diverse career paths available in the fashion and textile sector. The event was specifically designed to help school leavers make informed decisions about their next steps, whether that involves pursuing an apprenticeship or going to university.

The event featured presentations, workshops, and various exhibitors to guide young leavers in their career choices. FEL’s Head of Education, Lan Leeder, was present to promote the courses and apprenticeships available at FEL, and demonstrated basic sewing and repair techniques.

She said: “This was a fantastic event organised by the National Apprenticeships and Education Event. There were plenty of experts available to advise the young leavers on their career paths, whether they are considering an apprenticeship, attending university, or acquiring new skills. There is something for everyone.”

SEG External Moderation

The Fashion Technology Academy and its Leicester campus, the Fashion Hub, recently received an external moderation from the Skills and Education Group (SEG), specifically on Level 1 Award in Workers Rights and Labour Exploitation course.

The FEL and FTA team are pleased to announce that the moderation was a success and the final report can be found here: FINAL_ME3-ME4R_MV-27286_Fashion_Enter_WorkersRights_October2024

Divya Kamath, Educational Manager at the Fashion Hub Leicester said: “It was great honour to deliver this course and support candidates in preparation for work and to raise their awareness of the basic employment rights provided by UK law. We have delivered this course for 190 plus individuals in last 3 years. This was delivered in different factories and at the academy.

“Each cohort was amazing and during the interactive sessions many individuals took part in group discussions to share their experiences. Although English wasn’t the first language for most of our learners the team ensured each individual was able to fully understand each unit within the workbook.

“I would recommend that this course should be mandatory for anyone starting their employment journey.”

Statement Fashion Designs That Communicate Brand Values

And Finally…

Some wonderful FTA tutor feedback from a Level 1 Stitching student, Raya:

“I want to take a moment to share feedback about my tutor Ana in particular because I feel great teachers and industry leaders deserve recognition. I know this first hand. From the very start, Ana’s warm and welcoming nature has created an ideal environment for learning. She is patient and kind, making it easy for all of us to ask questions and feel comfortable as we explore new skills. Her passion for both sewing and teaching is clear, and it really shows in her approach to every lesson.

“Ana’s teaching style is truly exceptional. She breaks down complex techniques into simple steps that we can follow, helping us all learn quickly without feeling overwhelmed. The progress I’m seeing in myself, as well as in the other students, is remarkable. Her hands-on guidance and constant encouragement give us the confidence to keep improving.

“I also appreciate how Ana takes the time to connect with each student individually, understanding our unique needs and adjusting her instruction accordingly. It’s clear she cares about our success and genuinely wants to see us thrive.

“I just wanted to express my gratitude for having the chance to be part of this course and for the incredible instruction Ana is providing. Her teaching has made this experience truly enriching for all of us.”

Until next time, have a great week.
