Dear all,

A very big thank-you to all that attended the second instalment of the ‘FC Fashion Meetup’ last night. FashionCapital HQ was rammed with plenty of networking attendees and the Prosecco was flowing!

Many thanks to Shailina Parti, our Big, Black Sofa speaker, guests were hanging on her every insightful word. Lots of information gems such as: “The four points of creating a brand: Passion, focus, knowledge about business and creation of the perfect fit.” Drawing on her experiences and successes at Jaeger, followed by Monsoon Accessorize and currently Jigsaw Clothing her advice was truly invaluable for designers!

Just in from Northern Ireland, the Derry Collective also gave guests a taste of their developing labels, each designer set up an edited exhibition stand and previewed their creative ideas. This morning the group attended a Fashion Enter CPPD workshop with Caroline Ash and will receive further mentoring this afternoon.

Here is Shailina with MP for Foyle, former MLA and mayor of Derry City and Strabane district council Elisha McCallion.

Elisha commented: “Excellent event as part of #londonfashionweekshowcasing designers from #TheDerrydesigncollective. Great opportunities to showcase local talent and hear from Shailina Parti at Jigsaw!”

Derry Designer Joanne Doherty of Piece Makes Ltd with Celtic heart pictured with the President of Ireland, Michael D Higgins. Since the start of the Derry Designer Start-Up programme orders have increased by 75%! Jenny Holloway states: “I’ve never known anyone so ‘fast off the mark’ as Joanne. She’s an absolute pleasure to mentor and has a big can-do attitude!”

Watch this space for the next installment of the FC Fashion Meetup.
