Yodea Marquel Williams Gains BFC Foundation Scholarship

04-12-2024

The Fashion Technology Academy team are thrilled to hear that Yodea Marquel Williams has been named as a British Fashion Council Foundation MA Scholarship recipient for 2024/25.

Williams is one of seven MA recipients awarded this year, recognised for their talent, dedication and creativity. The scholarship will support course tuition fees, living expenses, and the production of a final year collection.

Fashion-Enter Ltd and the Fashion Technology Academy could see Williams’ creative talent when he joined as a Level 1 Stitching learner at the head office campus in Haringey. He went on to complete Level 2 in Stitching as well as Pattern Cutting, followed by an apprenticeship with FEL and Strictly.

On completing the apprenticeship Williams applied and was accepted on the BA Fashion Menswear course at UAL Central Saint Martins, here he was able to combine his knowledge and experience of fashion construction with creativity and innovation.

UAL Central Saint Martins is held in high regard within the fashion industry, with former graduates taking up some of the most prestigious posts in the designer sector. Alumni include the likes of Alexander McQueen, John Galliano, Gareth Pugh, Richard Quinn, the list goes on.

The FEL team sent Williams their congratulations, he responded:

“Thank you so much for your kind words and it is so nice to hear from you! I can’t tell you how much they mean to me. Your support and belief in me have been such a driving force, and I’m so grateful for everything you’ve done to guide and push me forward.

“I’m beyond honoured to have been awarded both the BFC Foundation Scholarship and the Sarabande Alexander McQueen Scholarship as I start my MA. It still feels surreal, and I wouldn’t be here without the encouragement you’ve given me over the years.

“I’d absolutely love to have your guidance as I work on my MA collection. It would mean so much to learn from you and have your insight round production as I navigate this next step. Thanks again for everything you’ve truly been such a big part of this, and I’m so excited for what’s ahead!”

As a BFC scholarship awardee Williams will have access to the BFC Scholars Programme, alongside a series of events and industry workshops to support creative development.

We are all excited to see the Yodea Marquel Williams MA collection in due course.
