Recycle with Michael – The Salvation Army Encourages School Children to Recycle Their Unwanted Clothing
17-03-2022
The Salvation Army Trading Company, the trading arm of The Salvation Army, is empowering school children to take action to help save our planet with the Recycle with Michael scheme, exclusively available for schools.
The Salvation Army Trading Company (SATCoL) collects around 50,000 tonnes of textiles each year, thanks to the generosity of members of the public and are able to reuse and repurpose these donations. In the last 10 years alone this equates to over £76 million to The Salvation Army to support the great work they do.
Now the SATCoL is keen to educate school children about climate change, empower them to take action to tackle it, and help them to build the knowledge, skills and values they will need for a sustainable future. As the largest charity owned textiles collector in the U.K, the SATCoL reuse and repurposing schemes lessen the impact on overflowing landfills by extending the useful life of products.
Recycle with Michael is the perfect way to support the circular economy. SATCoL is now encouraging schools to take part in the initiative with the offer of collection bags that will allow pupils to fill them with their used textiles including, clothing, bags and shoes. Once the bags are ready for collection SATCoL will manage all the logistics for a fast, efficient and easy process.
Not only will students be actively working to combat climate change by taking part, but also the resale of these goods will raise vital funds to help provide specialist support for survivors and potential victims of modern slavery, shelter for those experiencing homelessness and so much more. So each bag filled, is a bag filled with hope.
