Join the Fashion Revolution – Newsletter 22nd April 2015
This Friday is the 2nd anniversary of the Rana Plaza factory collapse in Dhaka, Bangladesh, where over 1100 people died and more than 2500 were injured. London Green MEP Jean Lambert has again urged the remaining retailers and fashion brands who have yet to contribute to the compensation fund for victims to do so without further delay.
Along with a reportage photographic exhibition of the disaster and it survivors, Jean Lambert will be chairing a conference today, Wednesday the 22nd that will bring together the EU Commissioner for Trade, Cecilia Malmström, with experts and campaigners on the global fashion supply chain industry. Both events are to mark the 2nd anniversary of the disaster and to emphasise the need for the fashion industry to take more responsibility for the safety and working conditions of those that supply them.
Jenny Holloway, CEO of Fashion Enter and www.fashioncapital.co.uk, added that keeping production local is an ethical way forward:
“Making in the UK is competitive and our factory proves it. We are currently making for ASOS.com, Phase Eight and M&S with Best of British.
“Think of the money retailers could be saving with the green footprint alone! The re-shoring of production in the UK is well and truly here and its here to stay. All we need now is the support from retailers to provide production plans, albeit flexible production plans, to react to market trends. We invite all buyers to come and view our SMETA approved factory complete with its new metal free contamination area to prove that quality garments can be made in London at affordable prices ethically.”

Fashion Enter Manufactured Designs at The F&F A/W Press Preview
It was fantastic to see garments produced in our very own Factory on show at the recent F&F press preview. The Autumn/Winter 15/16 launch event took place in the sumptuous surroundings of The Savoy and fashion icon Paloma Faith opened the proceedings wearing a rust pussy-bow blouse produced from our Factory! The white lace applique dress was another stunning piece that we are proud to have manufactured. Jenny Holloway CEO of Fashion Enter & FashionCapital commented: “It was absolutely wonderful to see all the designs we have been working on with Susan from the F&F design team come to life at the Autumn/Winter launch, as a fully compliant SMETA-approved factory we look forward to working on more high standard designs for future press launches.”
See You At DISC Tomorrow
With the rise in costs of manufacturing abroad, the benefits of making locally and the growth in the brand of British made, the DISC Manufacturers’ Trade Show offers the opportunity to explore potential opportunities to have collections made in UK.
Pop in and meet UK manufacturers, including Fashion Enter, who offer sampling, production and specialist skills to fashion labels. Browse the array of exhibitors or book in one-to-one appointments with select manufacturers and feel free to ask any questions.
“The day was really worthwhile. Already we have used three contacts from the show in the development of our AW14 Collection
- thank you DISC.”
Date: 23rd April, 10am – 5pm
Venue: The Trampery Old Street, 239 Old Street, London, EC1V 9EY
As The Factory expands production capacity within the new FTA space, renovations are being put in place to make sure the quality of garments manufactured within the Factory are at an all-time high and compliance of the SMETA-approved premises is as best possible.
The Factory is now operating with a metal free area, installed with a metal detector to ensure that no pins or broken needles are caught up in the final garments.
