Taking place on 12th July from 12.00pm – 17.00pm at The Factory in North London a series of industry experts will discuss a range of topics including finding the right manufacturer, important documentation, the design process, fabric sourcing and the legal side of running your own label.

12.00 – Introduction and Welcome
CEO Jenny Holloway will provide an overview of the current state of the fashion industry and tips on how to succeed with your label
12.15 – 12.45 – Know your Factory and Important Documentation – Jenny Holloway
Do you know what to look for, both good and bad when youre working with your manufacturer? What are the questions you need to ask? If you are new to the world of garment manufacturing or are in the process of sourcing the right manufacturer for your collection then this talk will prove invaluable to you and your business

13.30 – 14.00 – Product Development and the Design Process with Gabby Shinier Hill
Gabrielle Shiner-Hill is a highly skilled textile and fashion designer and product developer who has worked in the manufacturing industry for over fifteen years. Review Gabby’s experience and areas of expertise here
14.00- 14.30 – Fabric Sourcing with Mark Dodds
Understanding fabric composition and knowing where to source your fabrics is an important part of the design and manufacturing process. Mark Dodds graduated with an honours degree in Textile Management in 2001 and has over 15 years experience in the fashion industry in various technical, sourcing and commercial roles. Mark has travelled to most textile producing countries during his career for raw materials and garment sourcing. He is therefore able to draw upon his wide supply of international industry contacts to secure reliable, cost effective raw materials and production units across all product types.

14.45 – 15.15 – Funding and business support for new business startups – Richard Salmon, Chief Executive Enterprise for London
Richard Salmon is chief executive of the capital’s leading enterprise agency, Enterprise for London, which provides financial support to new and existing businesses to help them grow.

15.15 – 15.45 – IP and Copyright with Sofia Hinkley
Sofia is a partner in gunnercooke’s corporate department, with experience of intellectual property aspects in the corporate transactions and commercial agreements she manages for clients. Sofia will be identifying what the intellectual property rights are that secure designs and branding,how they can be protected, why it’s important and whether recent developments will affect protection of intellectual property.
15.45 – 16.15 – The common-sense lawyer with mismatched shoes – Nick Gould
A Partner at the law firm of Gunnercooke in London Nick advises companies from local start-ups to multinational trading groups on a wide range of business law issues. Nick will be discussing (i) the importance of having a written contract and (ii) key terms to be included in a simple employment contract.
