Stephen Timms Pays Fashion Enter a Visit

Last Friday (30th June) MP Stephen Timms paid Fashion Enter a visit. Stephen Timms, Shadow Minister in Work and Pensions has long been a supporter of the not-for-profit organisation Fashion Enter and launched the UKs leading fashion portal for the industry www.fashioncapital.co.uk when it was established in September 2001.

Stephen met with Jenny Holloway to discuss the company’s latest venture and expansion in training facilities and the number of new qualifications on offer. Stephen then paid The Stitching Academy a visit to meet with Tutor, Leyla Mehmet and get a full insight to the course, meet learners and review portfolios.

Fashion Enter and Waltham Forest College Unite

A close relationship has developed between Fashion Enter and major provider of further education, Waltham Forest College.  This collaboration overseen and encouraged by Jenny Holloway, CEO of Fashion Enter has led to the delivery of Fashion and Textiles qualifications from Entry Level 1 through to apprenticeships at levels 2, 3 and 4.

The collaboration was further cemented when Jenny decided to undertake her DTLLS Level 5 training (Delivery of Teaching in Life Long Learning Sector) with the College.

Ian Claussen, Director of Quality and Innovations stated ‘We are confident that this collaboration with the College and its own fashion department will develop further, especially as The Creative Arts department at the College which includes Art, Design and Fashion, is shortly to move into brand new, purpose built accommodation which is a key element in a £10m building programme.’

Jenny Holloway commented: “It’s been a real delight to work with Waltham Forest College. Their centering on excellence and compliance has created a very high standard in the Level 1 portfolios and the completion rate with the Level 1 has been almost 90%!  We have also had excellent progression with the successful completer’s with 10 moving into Further Education and 11 acquiring jobs. It’s been an excellent team effort between Waltham Forest College and our amazing staff at the Stitching Academy. Long may this continue.”

Next Thursday 12th June, Jenny is a judge at the Waltham Forest College Fashion Show where she will be offering the winner a free membership to Fashion Enter Ltd and fabric to produce their final collection.

The Big Bang Near Me Event

The Big Bang Near Me is about encouraging young people to pursue careers in engineering, technology and science. The open day offers advice on what subjects they need to study in order to take that path. The local Near Me organisers also have the knowledge and contacts to make sure each event delivers a programme of activities aligned to the strengths and specialties of the region. Fashion Enter will be at the next London edition at Alexandra Palace 8th July 2014.

Jenny Holloway comments: “Please come along and see how manufacturing really works at the innovative event The Big Bang. All the schools in the Haringey area will be attending so this is an ideal way to meet the many schools we have visited again. We attend schools most weeks to discuss how fashion apprenticeships work and with the opening of our new Level 2 qualification so we are interested to meet new recruits!”

Graduate Fashion Week 2014

Well done to Grace Weller at Bath Spa University on winning both the Gold and Womenswear awards at the Graduate Fashion Week awards ceremony on Tuesday. Fashion Enter has previously had the pleasure of working with some of the Bath Spa students and their dedication and attention to design detail really shone through.

This Week on FashionCapital

We report on all the Graduate Fashion Week action including the annual Awards ceremony. Barbara Hulanicki talks to us exclusively about manufacturing locally, showing at Bath in Fashion and her up and coming projects. And in Learning Urban Outfitters ‘Renewal’ buyer Sarah Kearney tells us how she got her career in fashion.

Coming Soon…Beanie & Bear

London based Beanie & Bear is launching a range of swimwear for girls and boys aged 3-10.

Beanie and Bear is the brainchild of Graphic designer, children’s illustrator and mother of 2 (Yasmin “Beanie” and Milo “Bear”) Noya Bebawi.  Noya has created a range of high quality bikinis and tailored trunks in a range of bold colours and playful prints that parents will be coveting. The instantly recognisable pieces are made with a real focus on perfect fit and an emphasis on quality and durability.  An antidote to little wet bottoms jumping around in saggy smalls that grown ups wouldn’t be seen dead in. With a cut that channels the 70s, a touch of eighties neon, bold colours and playful prints, the range also includes breezy kaftans for the girls and loose shirts for the boys for a complete beach solution for your little ones.

Designed to be mixed and matched to deliver endless combinations with bags of character and attention to detail from the soft lime lining to the signature gold bolt. The cherry on top is that all products are ethically sourced and made in Britain.

“I wanted to bring together the aesthetic of great adult swimwear with a sense of the playful that will appeal to little people.  This has been as much about bringing a vision in my head to life as it has been about getting inspiration from my children. Yasmin’s illustrations have formed the basis for a range of prints and Milo has an uncanny ability to test things to destruction. I really have to thank my kids for contributing to the design and for keeping me focused on making sure that each of the pieces is ready for action and Jenny Holloway and the team at Fashion Enter for all the support, enthusiasm, guidance and hard work.”

Fashion Enter CEO Jenny Holloway adds:

“I have loved working with Noya. She had a vision from the outset that was so inspiring – even down to the name! The resulting garments are amazing and this range is going to fly.”

Many congratulations to Kasa and her new gorgeous baby boy David, here he is with his sister Megan.

Also to Jenny Holloway’s husband, his under 15’s football team the Orpington Rover’s, which includes their son Zac, have just been promoted. The team celebrated with a paintball match last Saturday and still have the bruises to prove it!

Jenny will also be taking a turn with full-time volunteers at the Simon Community soup run this Thursday.
