Dear all,

26 nov mayor wandsworthToday the Fashioncapital.co.uk & Fashion Enter team along with Wandsworth Council welcomed over 200 school students to the Big Fashion Conversation. The event targeted 14-24 year olds interested in careers and training in the fashion industry. The panel featured a broad range of professionals working in the sector and provided a real eye-opener into the range of jobs and opportunities available. From business to design, production to promotion, we would like to thank all of the panel members that presented and answered questions.

“Really enjoyed today, learnt a lot that I’ve never thought about before. Great insight into fashion, as I aspire to be a fashion designer one day. Speaking to Barjis really inspired me, as she went to the college I hope to go to and has completed the route that I hope to follow.”

Chimna, 15, Saint Cecilla School

“At first I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go into fashion, but now seeing the different jobs you can do I would love to. I got inspired from the CEO of the UKFT and found him interesting.”

Gabrielle, 15, Saint Cecilla School

“I’ve really enjoyed today I found it very helpful and it has widened my knowledge on what I would like to do in the future which is definitely to become a fashion designer. I found Lilly especially inspiring as she is a young woman that was developing her position in the fashion industry.”

Fashion & Textiles Skills Summit

Last week Fashion Enter CEO Jenny Holloway & Paul J Markevicius attended and spoke the Fashion & Textiles Skills Summit organized by Creative Skillset.

Paul J Markevicius commented:

“It was a privilege to be able to attend this Skillset industry event, supported by UKFT, ABC Awards (working closely with FTA) British Fashion Council, Nottingham Trent University, F&T, Hive and CapitB Trust, whose Chair, Mike Williams gave an indication of funding support that was still available for appropriate training projects. It would be good to see trainee, student representation on the next event program and possibly a workshop format, to squeeze more ideas out of the best people in the industry, focusing on ‘how’ the industry can collectively solve its problems. The Fashion and Skills Council is looking for committed representatives from the industry and has its next meeting in January.”

Jayne West from Creative Skillset added:

“A deep and heartfelt thank you for all the input and commitment to the first ever UK wide Fashion & Textiles Skills Summit. We’ve had some amazing feedback, recognition of some of the similar issues encountered across the industry and we hope all that attended found the day useful as first step towards an industry wide action and investment plan.”
