Dear all,

Launch of the Stitch in Time programme

This Friday sees the launch of the Stitch in Time programme at The Workshop and Florentia Clothing Village.

If you reside in the Seven Sisters area of Haringey you can have the opportunity to learn about the world of fashion and if you meet the required standards, can then obtain a job in the industry locally. The programme, entitled “Stitch in Time” is a project supported by the Bridge New Deal for Communities, Haringey Council and the Florentia Clothing Village in Seven Sisters.

To coincide with the programme the Rt. hon. Stephen Timms MP will be making a special guest appearance to The Workshop and the Florentia Clothing Village on 24th July to review the facilities available.

News just in that the BBC has confirmed they will also be there to cover this exciting project!

Summer Uni 2009!

In the midst of Summer Uni 2009 at Barking the series of workshops and seminars are proving to be a great success!

Those attending the workshops have already had the opportunity to gain knowledge and understanding on various subjects ranging from how to set up your own business with Director of Fashion Enter, Jenny Holloway, to Marketing your Brand with Menswear Buyer at Harvey Nichols.

‘Just a quick note to say thanks for today, thought it was a great group and congratulations to you for arranging something really worthwhile.

They had great questions and are clearly committed, I thought they were keen and bright and enthusiastic.

I hope my talk gave them some information and proves useful to them in some way.’

There are still two days left of workshops including How to be a Catwalk Model with leading modelling agency Mahogany Models which will be especially valuable to all those entering the Face of Barking and Dagenham competition.

COLA T-Shirt competition

The work Fashion Enter has carried out with students from the City Academy of Islington has proven to be highly successful.

Karen Mangan Enterprise and Community Development Coordinator from COLA commented:

‘What started off as a short one day introduction to fashion has now resulted into a full blown project! We have now held 6 seminars with Fashion Enter and this has included our pupils in year 9 visiting Clothes Show London and access was gained to Graduate Fashion Week too.  We are now working on a project for September too that involves Year 9 and 10 making recycled garments to then be sold in the Barking Enter boutique in Croydon. A sincere thank you to all the team at Fashion Enter for making all of this possible.’

The COLA T-shirt competition continues and you can still vote for your favourite T-shirt on line.

The square neck line is finished with the lovely detail of a collar that adds sophistication to the dress.
