Window Trends 2011

02-02-2011

Every window has a theme which links together with the current collection, many stores now frequently change their window displays either weekly or monthly to entice new and existing customers in the store.

This year Selfridges have decided to dedicate their windows to new and up and coming names from fashion and art. The windows will showcase 20 of 2011’s emerging new talents from jewellers, designers, illustrators and milliners. The new designers have also designed exclusive pieces that will be sold in pop-up-shops in store and online.

This is Charlie Le Mindu window display, one of the most vibrant ones out of all the designers. Charlie’s pieces are head and body wear that are made completely out of hair.

Walking further down Oxford Street the window displays then appear to have a running theme of nude colours, browns and earthy tones.

Zara

Above Zara has a very straightforward window display with three mannequins standing as if they are in a photo shoot. The colours of the clothes are a mix of denim, pale nudes and browns. This season Zara has gone for a lot of cropped trousers and thick knit cardigans in their display. With leather tan accessorises to complete the look.

River Island has gone for a very simple white background with added black accessories of hanging rails and ladders. The colour palette is neutral with denim and nude tones. Like Zara, River Island has gone for cropped trousers in the window with light coloured knits. Tanned accessories such as the bag and shoes are also a trend this season.

Below is the Miss Selfridge window display, the three images show that Miss Selfridge has gone with a classic theme to link with their collection of nude and brown palette such as camel, tan, rust and pink tones. The use of different levels with stairs and steps and the use of classic iron and wood furniture create a very traditional and characteristic ambiance. Shorts, crop embellished tops, and crop ankle trousers are also key pieces in their window display.

Topshop have also went for a very nude colour palette, the use of bright colour from the sunflowers are very subtle but add great detail to the window. Again Topshop like the other stores mentioned have went for tans, pinks, and blues tones in their window display. They have a mixture of high waist, paper bag waist and leather shorts for this season, as well as denim pieces and maxi skirts.

It’s quite clear this season looking at the store windows down our high streets that the colour palette for this season is neutral colours of tan, rustic tones and blues. An array of different shorts, crop/peg leg trousers and embellished tops and tan accessories also seem to be on trend this season.
