In an evening celebrating technology, design and enterprise start-ups, Here East announced the launch of Plexal, an innovative centre that will connect technology, create, design, build and cultivate enterprises.

“Plexal will work alongside companies who are pioneering new technology in their fields.  Together we can create a community of products designed to improve all areas of life from sport and wellbeing to fashion and iot.”

The evening, led by Oli Barrett MBE, saw speeches from key players of the business including Claire Cocketerton, CEO, partners including David Goldstone CBE, special guest Dame Sarah Story DBE, Liam Maxwell and many more.

Liam Maxwell, National Technology Advisor for HM Government took to the stage stating: “I can’t emphasis enough how important entrepreneurs are to the government… Technology and digital industries support 1.4 million jobs in the UK.”

Following Liam Maxwell, Paralympic gold medallist, Dame Sarah Storey DBE, shared her inspiring and motivating story that has led her to become the most successful female Paralympian of all time, whilst Team Sky told the audience “There is no ceiling…” as Simon Jones, head of performance support and innovation spoke out about always pushing boundaries.

Many other key speakers introduced their technology products to the crowd including Jessica Butcher, Co-Founder and Director of Blippar, an app that allows you to explore and discover interactive experiencers from the physical world, Tom Putnam who introduced BeeLine a navigation device for cyclists and Gerard Grech, founder of Tech City UK.

Guests were also presented with the ability to meet and great numerous start-ups and experience their creation in person.  Here at FashionCapital we particularly favoured Holition, creative agency that uses technology to create digital experiences working alongside brands including Rimmel, Brooke Roberts, radiography and knitwear designer, Makers Café, specialist 3D printers and Racefully.

An inspiring, innovative and insightful evening that presented the future of many industries we here at FashionCapital look forward to seeing what the future holds and returning to Plexal in May 2017.
