Regine Mowill A/W 2007:
” Snakelike Dreams and Ladders”
For her third season since graduating from Central Saint Martins in 2005, Regine Mowill maintains her playful approach to colour, print and storytelling. Her latest collection is about snakes.
A/W 2007 draws inspiration from the Victorian family parlour game “Snakes and ladders’ “Climbing the ladders and sliding down the snakes are the classic elements of excitement and disappointment which characterise all good children’s games.†(Hamleys toy shop, London)
The handprints mimic the textures and colours of snakes and layered so to give the impression of a woven fabric. Soft snakelike knits drape the body in muted browns and beige with brighter hints of colour. The prints are effortless and easy to wear, though they have a totally unique feel. Macramé knots are worked into dresses and coats. There is a nod towards Victorian England, but perhaps more to the bands now playing in their parlours.
This is a playful collection where vipers and pythons get knotted up as they climb the ladders. Snake-moves are translated into easy, wearable garments with a hint of danger in the prints and in the way they hug the body.
Regine is of Japanese-Norwegian descent. She graduated from Central Saint Martins with a BA in Fashion design womenswear (w/marketing) in 2005. Regine has also trained at Philip Treacy and Veronique Branquinho.
