“Growing up in a family of five siblings has created a significant impact in my life decisions. From inheriting my creative skills starting from my mother who is a professional hairdresser to my two older sisters having art qualifications has influenced me in my obsessive interest in fashion and art.

Having an older sister who is an event organizer has been a great opportunity for me. I assisted her at one of her many African fashion shows which was a great experience because I have gained many skills that I never knew I could do today.

I have succeeded in continuing my faith, always pushing myself and always willing to learn. Then again this had built my interest in fashion in many environments such as fashion shows, fashion stores, fashion television shows and fashion magazines. I believe fashion is a form of expressing yourself – through your clothes and showing your personality in what you wear.

Fashion is art; it is amazing to see what fashion designers can come up with. Designers such as Holly Fulton, John Galliano, and Alexander Wang have inspired me by the use of colour, movement of pattern and the style of their clothing.

Studying at the ASOS Stitching Academy I have developed my skills in sewing knowing which stitch will be right for my designs, I am able to be creative and use a range of colours and materials. I have become acquainted with these skills it has enabled me to make my most creative and visionary ideas into reality. Attending the six-week course at the ASOS Stitching Academy has furthered my thinking regarding what my own style is and who am I as a designer; what my aspirations are how to define and fulfil my professional goals.

I would like to study further to develop my skills and understanding of the roles and functions within the fashion industry which will equip me to make a career as a designer in this field. I am an ambitious and hardworking individual that seeks to increase my knowledge in fashion.  Therefore I believe that taking an apprenticeship will significantly contribute towards my professional development. I am sure that the working environment as well as professional guidance will help me develop my understanding as a designer.”
