This Saturday, Director; Jennifer Holloway taught the young students about the art of embellishment by hand. The pupils assisted with the manufacture of a dress Emily Poomering designed and won in the competition at Oak Lodge primary school anounced last week.
Students then cut and stitched the flowers onto the jersey dress.
Following on from the flower embellishments, Jennifer Holloway then showed students how to make pom poms.
On one of the hottest days of the year so far, upon the beginning of Summer as the end of school term beckons, the prom dress is a hot topic on the lips of many a teenager in this new tradition widely embraced by the UK.
Students were asked to design their own prom dresses bearing in mind their newly found knowledge in embellishments and created some fabulous designs. This is a huge market to tap into and highlighting this growing market as more schools take up this American school age farewell concept at the end of term poses an important business element to design by capitalising on growing opportunities.
The students then watched a video about CAD/CAM and discussed the difference between bespoke production and larger scale manufacturing.
