Sewing Threads

05-01-2011

For example, when you are generally tacking use cotton, except for when you are sewing on silk or Terylene fabrics. When tailoring or doing alterations you should use mercerize coloured cotton e.g. sylko. When you are permanently stitching, where possible used threads from the same source, for example if you are sewing a cotton garment use a cotton thread. It is also important to match the colour well.

When you are sewing buttons on, use a strong thread except when sewing on a lightweight fabric. For example use linen button thread. When matching threads with the fabric remember the luster or sheen affects the colour making it appear lighter. In cases such as this, select a slightly darker shade than the fabric.
