Helen Scutt

I am very interested in pursuing a career in fashion design. I am currently studying A levels in Art and Photography which I have tailored to fashion by doing clothes design in art and fashion photography, and after this I wish to take a foundation studies in Art and Design, then eventually go onto fashion design degree. I have received an A in photography and a B in art at AS level. I also have an A grade GCSE in textiles.

I have completed some work experience at a Silversmith in London, which gave me a good insight into making things and the design process involved. I focused on designing and making jewellery. As well as being chosen for the 6 week London fashion forum creative design course, I was also lucky enough to be chosen to do a 6 week fashion design course at the London College of Fashion last September. And again I got to learn about the process of making a garment from start to finish.

Carolyn Moore

My name is Carolyn Moore and I am 16 years old, currently studying A levels at Langley Park Boys 6th form, taking graphics, product design, physics and maths. I particularly enjoy graphics and product design as these subjects let you express your own ideas, the satisfaction of making the finished product, and you get to be creative whilst producing your own original work. I hope to follow a career involving art and design technology, as I am interested in new trends in art, fashion and in music. I hope to go University or Art College, to study for a career I will enjoy doing.

My name is Emma and I’m 17years old.  I’ve lived in Croydon, Surrey for my entire life and am currently attending Langley Park Sixth Form.  I’m studying four A Levels including Graphics, Photography, Maths and ICT.  The subject that I enjoy the most is Graphics as it lets me use my artistic flare and explore the world of graphic design.

After completing my two years of studying at Langley Park I hope to take a gap year in which I shall go travelling.  I hope to visit Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.  I love the idea of visiting places all over the world and having a taste of different cultures.

After travelling across the world I would like to carry out a career in design, either graphic design or fashion design.

Laura Harris

I

My name is Laura Harris, I am 17 years old and I am in my second year at Langley Boys Sixth Form. I am currently studying English, Maths and Art. Art is by far my favourite subject and after getting an ’A’ last year I am determined to achieve good grades this year too. I am hoping to attend Ravensbourne Art College after sixth form to study the Foundation Course there. I have been there for many study days including still life drawing (fun!) which did help me with figure drawing, essential when designing clothes. For the past year I have had a Saturday job at Jane Shilton. This has helped me appreciate good quality and design, and has taught me some of the marketing processes. I joined this 6 week fashion course mainly for the experience and to build up my portfolio, but now I am really interested and hope to have a career in either fashion or advertising fashion.

Amy Grindley

I am a 17 year old student from South London, currently studying Graphic Design, History of Art and I.C.T.  Keenly interested in Graphics, I have always been enthusiastically involved in creative subjects from an early age. It is in the area of Graphics that I would possibly like to pursue a career, but I am also open to other fields of art and design. Recently, a curiosity for the fashion industry has concerned me and I think it would be incredible to apply my creativity to clothing. The list of opportunities in the design world is endless, and in this is where I dream to be involved in the future.

Jodie Campbell

Hello! This year I joined Langley Park Boys School where I have started AS courses in English Literature, Business and Media Studies. This year students at Langley Park Boy School were lucky enough to be offered to take Design and Technology- Textiles at Langley Park Girls' school. I decided this was a good opportunity for me as this was my favourite subject at GCSE, and I received an A*. It allows me to further my love of design, and learn about the technical side of fashion also, looking at different material and processes used in clothe making. When I heard about this fashion course I thought it would be a great opportunity to gain more knowledge of the fashion industry, which I aim to part of one day as everything about fashion fascinates me.

Valerie Osibona

I believe the art of fashion is a universal pleasure which can be experienced everywhere including Catwalks, High streets, Magazines etc. This has influenced my perspective on every day life which inspires my artistic development.

My Name is Valerie Osibona and I am seventeen years old. At Langley Park School for Boys, I am currently studying for A levels in Drama, Media Studies and Psychology. Next year I hope to attend Royal Holloway University to study for a Media Arts Degree.
From a small age, I have always been creative whether it’s performing or designing. I always try to put forward my own expressions in my work. Designing and directing my own fashion spread / photo shoot as well as attending Clothe Show Live 2003, was amazing. This gave me the opportunity to further my interest into the Fashion World.

Overall, I believe the LFF Creative Design Course will provide me with a deeper insight to the fashion industry and a chance to build my portfolio.

David Rapper

My name is Dave, and I'm currently studying Graphics, Photography, English Literature and French at Langley Park Boys School in Beckenham. My main interests are graphics, music and fashion. After taking fine art for GCSE I decided to branch out into Graphics and Photography for A level, both of which are full of creativity and the freedom to express myself however I want. Fashion comes as part of photography and in every day life, and I enjoy experimenting with the design process, trying out my own ideas, and watching the latest trends unfold. My main ambitions are to experiment with fashion photography, and carry on graphics to University.

Grace Gardner

‘As I am still studying at sixth form, my portfolio and experience would obviously not compare to those of a graduate.  It is, therefore, not experience which should be looked for, but my potential. During my studies I have managed to gain an insight into the fashion industry.  Firstly this was when I did work experience at ‘Grease Paint’ make-up agency in London. I have many different interests in the industry, a make-up artist being one of them. I was able to learn the techniques for every angle of make-up design and discover how they change with different clothing styles on the catwalk. I was then able to visit the film set of ‘Miss Marple’, to put in practice what I had learnt and see how it works in reality.

The qualifications I have achieved to date are 9 G.C.S.E’S, 4 AS Levels and I am currently undertaking 3 A Levels. The  Art- based grades are: grade A in Art G.C.S.E, grade A’s in Art AS Level and Graphics AS Level and I am currently undertaking Art and Graphics A Levels, both with predictions of grade A’s.

In my Art and Graphics portfolio, I have purposely created each unit on a different interest of mine, with such titles as ‘Japanese Pattern Design’ and ‘Fashion throughout the ages’. This enabled me to then show my talent for these areas and constantly develop and improve my skills. I intend to study a Foundation course in Art and Design next year, followed by a degree in the area I choose to pursue.

I hope that my ambition, hard work and determination will ensure that I can be successful.  I couldn’t be more excited to see just what the future holds for me within the fashion industry……………’

Ruth Ovia

Hi

My name is Ruth Ovia. I live in South London and I am currently studying at Langley Park Boys School.

My interest and in fashion stems from an early age where I absolutely adored dressing up, putting on makeup and posing for the cameras- which I believe to be one of my specialties.

At the moment I am studying Business, Media and Politics at A-Level. With these qualifications I hope to pursue Management and Law as a combined course at university level. Although as an individual I firmly believe there is always room for expansion, and would also love to break into the world of fashion as an extra hobby. This is one of many aspirations I long to achieve. One being to create my own fashion label which I believe will serve me well in the future armed with the knowledge of Business and Media at A-Level along with Business Management at university to help consolidate this.

Working alongside LFF has been a wonderful experience, through them I have gained a greater insight into the world of fashion with experience such as

  • Creating mood boards
  • Doing basic figure drawing
  • Learning about materials and garments plus more!

With this achieved experience I hope to build up a profitable profile and better myself in order to achieve great success.

In my spare time I like to acquire more knowledge- especially if it is in conjunction with my future such as reading magazines and constructive books ranging from all scopes, watching Fashion TV and generally keeping up to date on current affairs- especially having an open eye for the forecasting fashion trends within the market.

Thankyou for taking your time to read my profile.

Ruth
