Catford High School
28-01-2010
The students started the day by being introduced to the fashion industry at the Florentia Clothing Village via a brief power point presentation of "What is Fashion?" in the boardroom of Mark Anthony.
The students were then taken to a range of other manufacturers and digital printers to view the processes of how the conception of an idea flows throughout the design cycle into the final product of a garment.
The Florentia Clothing Village plays host to 33 manufacturing units contributing to the clothing industry producing for the likes of River Island, Jane Norman and leading high end retailers. The students enjoyed the tour of the variety of businesses in Florentia such as bridal, formal menswear and evening women's wear.
Next stop was Suitefa1, the digital printers and embroiderers, whom specialise in textiles and vinyl, having worked with large corporate organisations to print logos and promotional materials for events.
The students then came back to the Workshop to learn about the Design Cycle with Leith and tried out designing their own garments on body templates, some truly inspirational designs were created, showing the early creative potential to progress further into the fashion industry.
An excellent day was had by all, and the other half of the class will experience the same opportunity next Thursday.
