Duration: Two years full time

 

Course Information
This programme is designed to develop your design and technical skills to provide a basis for progression onto Higher Education or employment within the Fashion Industry. The course will encourage you to explore your creativity and ideas through a range of projects including womenswear, menswear, childrenswear and accessories.

 

The first year covers the full garment design process, from design to catwalk with the second year dedicated to your individual development.
Coursework encourages links with the fashion industry with ‘live’ design projects and nationwide competitions.

 

A selection of work from both years forms a vital part of the End of Year Show within the Bradford School of Art and various fashion shows.

 

What Next?
By the end of this programme you should have the mixture of qualifications and experience to apply with confidence for jobs in the fashion industry or progress to higher level courses such as a (BA Hons) Degree or Higher National Diploma. Examples of career opportunities include: Designers and Assistant Designers, Pattern Cutters and Assistant Pattern Cutters, Buyers, Fashion Co-ordinators, Costume Designers, Wardrobe Supervisors in Theatres, Freelance Designers, Illustrators, Visual Merchandisers, Fashion Stylists, Product Managers, Sample Machinists, Trend Predictors and Recruitment Consultants.

Entry Requirements
Age at entry 16+
BTEC First Diploma/GNVQ Intermediate in Art and Design or 4 GCSEs at Grade C or above (preferably one of the GCSEs should be an art, media or a design-related subject)

A portfolio of art, media or design related work which should include examples of drawing from real life
All applicants are interviewed by a specialist tutor
All applicants will be required to provide a satisfactory reference.
The Fashion industry expects you to be creative and enthusiastic. To succeed you should be aware of current trends in Fashion.
