What’s it all about?
  


Our stimulating and creative approach to fashion will encourage you to build self-confidence in all aspects of design and production and their associated skills and disciplines.


 


 


We believe in offering you the opportunity to take your own creativity to the highest level through the use of a disciplined approach to design. We do this by encouraging a thorough understanding of the culture of fashion and the processes involved in designing, producing and marketing garments.

Will I get to do a work placement?


 


Work placement is covered in year two. Recent placements in various areas of the fashion industry have included Jonathan Saunders, designer (London), New Look design studio (London), Mix Mag, Bliss Magazine (London), Grattans design studio (Bradford), Armani’s buying office (London), Nicole Fahri design studio (London), Amanda Wakeley, Paul Smith, Closer Magazine, Alexander McQueen, ITV and Burberry ltd.


 


 


How is the Course Assessed?


 


Assessment is coursework-based.


 


 


Will I get to go anywhere interesting?


 


As part of the programme we offer students the opportunity to visit fashion capitals such as Paris, New York and London. The location varies each year.


 


 


Are there any additional costs?


 


We offer a number of trips that are paid for by the student. In addition, art materials and possibly a sewing machine and computer are useful to enable students to study at home, but these are not essential.


 


 


What resources are available to me?


 


We have professional base rooms for each year group and a main shared factory space for manufacture and production.


 


 


European links


 


The course participates in the College’s Erasmus student exchange scheme.


 


 


Electives


 


The College programme includes electives in Printmaking, 3D, Photography, Video, Visual Studies, Languages, Jewellery, Multi-culturalism and Gender Studies.


 


 


Is this course for me?


 


If you want to study at degree level on a course that involves fashion design and production, this course may be for you.


 


 


Progression and career opportunities


 


Our graduates have moved on to a wide variety of creative careers in the fashion industry from design to PR. Some also go on to build their own businesses. Some have gone to work for designers such as Jonathan Saunders, Vivienne Westwood, Russell Sage and Hussein Chalayan. Others now work for Moda in Pelle, Vicky Martin, Fashion Group, Umbro and Action Apparel.

Entry Requirements


 


You should be at least 18 years old with one of the following:


a)     Passes in 5 different subjects at GCSE / A Level.  At least 2 of these should be at A Level.  GCSE’s must be at Grades A-C, and include English Language.  In most cases a Diploma in Foundation Studies is also required.


b)     AVCE Art & Design, or a National Diploma in a design area related to that being applied for, plus three GCSE passes at Grade C or above in other subjects, including English Language


c)     Qualifications and/or experience equivalent to the above, which implies an equal capability to succeed on the course.  For example, we accept an Access to Higher Education qualification specialising in Art & Design, or the International Baccalaureate as equivalent to A Levels.
