Assembly

11-02-2008

When a template has been made, smooth the material and place the templates onto the fabric, then pin at matching notches, corners and straight sections to prevent the templates from moving.

The industry uses mass cutting got be done by machines, but when hand cutting remember t be precise.

When sewing fabrics together join the fabrics by the seams and try to make them secure, neat and discreet, by tacking the material before seaming it can make a more accurate result.

There are many different seams such as open, closed, French or flat. The most widely used seam is a flat or plain seam, as its discreet but not highly durable.

Hems and edges finished are for tidying up unfinished or raw edges. Usually a rolled up hem is widely used, by folding the material over inwards. For women’s clothes especially making a garment can mean altering a fit. This can be done by; tucks or pleats, gathering or darts. All of these of course can add great design features.
