Course Rationale
A collaborative project between Fashion Capital and Pascals College:
A unique collaboration between learning and the world of work, enabling the delivery of a range of courses that engage and offer the option of gaining skills that equip individuals for the world of work, within the fashion, textiles and design and manufacturing work environment
The courses offered allows students flexibility, and development, in a range of courses.
Both the level 1 and 2 courses require no previous qualifications or experience to start.
Rationale
Fashion Capital and Pascals College, reviewed the current offerings of NVQ's Level 1 and 2 ( and Equivalent) in Art, Design with focus on Fashion, Textiles, Manufacturing and Business and Enterprise.
Not only can students be supported in the vocational courses, but through Pascals College, they can opt to take additional courses, such as Maths, English, ICT, and other Basics Skills courses
It was felt that the OCR Nationals fitted with the ethos of both establishments, in preparing candidates for the wider world of work, through
- Basic skills
- Enterprise and Business understanding
- Work based simulation, as well as opportunities for work experience
Clientele- suggested stakeholders
- Schools: 11-16 and 11-19(target age for courses, those that are 14-16 and 16-19. Supporting schools to engage in vocational qualifications
- Those with no formal qualifications
- Adult learners
- Returners to work:
- New entrants to Job market:
- Those needing to build on (up skill) new current skills.
- Those needing entry to fashion and textiles through other vocational career paths
- A Community based project: – working with a range of clientele particularly in Haringey and surrounding boroughs
- Boys into Fashion- a project to encourage boys to look at careers on the Fashion and Textiles industry
Accreditation and National Framework
- It has been accredited onto the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) for Levels 1 and 2 and are part of the OCR Nationals suite of qualifications:
- Both qualifications are mapped to the National Occupational Standards in Art, Design and Media Fashion and related work areas.
Other advantages and benefits of the OCR nationals:-
- Option to gain accreditation for each Unit completed ,- Providing success and achievable advancement in small steps. This fits with the targeted clientele, enabling clients to join when a new unit is started rather than wait for the new course to begin
- Accreditation is also available at the end of the completed course
- The variety of the units, and link to real world and work experience
- The progression and links to other NVQ qualifications.
- The option to include Business and Enterprise, and Career options, preparing candidates for the world of work.
Approval and funding
Courses stated have been identified as being accredited to the National Qualifications Framework and are eligible for funding under the Learning and Skills Council's funding mechanisms as in Section 96/97 arrangements.
OCR Nationals – Art and Design and Media
This qualification relates to national occupational standards in art, design and media related areas at Level 1.
OCR Level 2 National Certificate in Design
This qualification relates to national occupational standards at level 2 in:
• Design (Graphic design, Fashion & textile design, Product design, Spatial design)
• Photo Imaging and Photo Processing.
Progression
There is progression from the Art and Design and Media and National Certificate in Design.
