Reforming 14

25-05-2010

This education initiative will enable students to gain first hand experience, learn current work based skills and put these into practice through real work situations.

What is even more exciting is the opportunity to have funded partnership provision to deliver the Diploma.  This collaborative approach will ensure that experts in their area of specialism deliver teaching and learning.

Features of Specialised Diploma

·         The content that is industry approved.

·         The size which has principal learning; generic learning; optional specialist additions

·         The contextualisation of learning which is work related

·         Integration of functional skills and personal learning and thinking skills (PLTs)

The 14-19 Funding objectives

The long term target for post 16 participation and attainment is that 90% of 17 year olds are participating by 2015, 85% of 19 year olds achieving level 2 by 2013

The 14-16 and 16-18 entitlements to Specialised Diplomas are met in each local area by 2013
An organisation and funding system, which enables collaboration between providers, and funding follows increased learner choice.

Current developments in funding practical/specialist provision delivered by partnerships

Quality Assurance
Quality assurance can be met by the use of systems with indicators, such as internal verification standards to ensure reliability, validity, authenticity and sufficiency when assessing students’ competency.
There should be consistency and continuity pre and post 16, between
areas with assurance of supply to cover all aspects of the teaching
and learning.

Why collaborate?

The Diploma could not be delivered by an individual school acting alone and nor could many colleges offer it in full. Therefore, as an Education and Fashion and Textiles specialist I look forward to the opportunity of working with you.
