Eastbury Comprehensive School Visit

11-07-2014

On Friday 4th July 2014, I took at trip to Eastbury Comprehensive School to meet 40 year 8 students and their brilliant tutor Fiona, for a fashion & textiles workshop. The students were all very enthusiastic upon my arrival, showing an already existent interest in textiles or fashion.

We began the presentation with information about becoming a brand, the students, who were all very interested in Fashion Enter’s work with some of the UK’s leading high-street stores went on the discuss having their own label, including target markets and the garment life cycle, using a real life example from a fashion label.

We looked at a pattern on dot and cross paper, examined a garment and guessed the retail price; the students gave lots of feedback but didn’t guess high enough! They were surprised at the final cost, which I then broke down and explained, which then made more sense to the students.

The next task set was branding their label, students created a brand name and created a mood board of their target customer with styles for inspiration. From this each student then designed a garment for their brand using our male and female templates.

The students worked really hard and they were all very focussed which lead to each group filling their board and create a range of designs.

The session finished with the students presenting their work in the hall on stage, under a large banner station Eastbury Comprehensive Designers of the Future. All students did a great job of creating a brand name, mood board and range of designs. It was a great workshop; I was really impressed with their enthusiasm and hard work.

We are going to upload the winning work on the Fashion Capital social media. Watch this space!
