Seminar with Topshop and EEF

05-09-2008

Yesterday was one eye opener! Designers were given an outstanding overview of what its like to deal with New York by Eimear Hawker from Topshop and then a review of tackling production issues was then provided by Nigel Rust from EEF.

Eimear      Seminar with Topshop and EEF 7

The seminar from Eimear provided a complete guide to cost and US uplifts, quota requirements, international trade agreements with China – USA and USA Europe, US customs (we are talking strict here!) labelling requirements, the COO and RN numbers (1****9), Kimball tags pick timelines and much more besides. Handouts where also given to each participating designer. Please note that care labelling and fibre composition along with the fire test regulations are absolutely vital. Another vital piece of information was the importance of sizing too e.g. a UK 14 is a USA 10!

Seminar with Topshop and EEF 3

Nigel Rust an ex manufacturer himself then provided an excellent overview of designer/manufacturer relationships, finding the right manufacturer and then choosing the right manufacturer for each designer and finally the importance of Lean Manufacturing combined with how to affect the performance of your manufacturer. We also had a very good example of the Gant chart too!

So there you have it…we are conscious that some of the designers had problems finding the location so we will be running through this presentation again when we return from the Big Apple 14th September.
