LFW Sept 08 – Spijkers en Spijkers

15-09-2008

Inspired by popular culture and our obsession with beauty and cosmetic surgery (have they been trading sketch books with Ann-Sofie Back?) the duo came up with a collection that combines the natural and the superficial, combining it together to create garments of beauty and structural brilliance.

The collection comprised of ultra feminine sheer pieces inset with frilled seams and lace overlays. Colours were soft, muted and girly and for the first half of the collection; mostly dusky pinks and lilacs with hints of pewter golds and beige lace. For the latter section of the show the beige/black lace followed through with hints of gold and bold peach teamed with a strong use of leopard print.

The collection obviously plays with the ideas of varied transparencies, featuring panelled sections revealing thighs and torsos referencing our desire for body perfection.

The fabrics reflected this desire for all things perfect by using delicate chiffons, organza, satin, crepe silks and lace.

The collection featured playsuits (reminiscent of 40's style nightgowns) and organza with lace strapless catsuits, showing that the all-in-one is definitely here to stay. Fitted dresses with ruffle inlays came in both knee and floor length versions. While high-waisted pencil skirts were teamed with sheer ruffle blouses, delicious!

The collection was definitely in line with what we've been seeing in the main tent. So gear up for a S/S of sheer blouses, sensuous fabrics and plenty of ruffles, for all those romantics this is one to revel in!
