LFW Sept 08 – Ashish

Ashish

Garments had a 'hard wearing' element to them as they sported big, chunky, metal zips that adorned both hareem pants, waist/coats and dresses.

Trench coats and baseball caps created a 'trucker' style look, but teamed with dresses of the most sparkly proportions ensured a punked up party of a show.

I watched, open mouthed as sassy shift dresses were embellished with shimmer, in the shape of checks.

The monochrome palletes were often accented with silvers and golds to create a full on evening look. Aside from structured sparkle, Ashish has re-kindled this seasons tassels, choosing to jazz it up traditional fringing with plenty of sequins.

The collection also included 'dress down' pieces that resulted in some sophisticated, yet slouchy cut, hareem pants and pushed up sleeve jumpers, that were 'prettied' up with fringing, lurex style sparkle, prints and embroideries, this was one collection that tried to do it all.

Though the overall feel was very Wintery, evening wear is often 'dressed down' in the summer, so it was nice to see some 'Pussy Galore' style.

As the collection progressed, sophisticated, cocktail wear was replaced with 'trucker glam', as mid-wash denim hot pants were teamed with shimmering, tasseled tops. The show gradually became more 80's punk as military coats were coated in neon badges and vests were dip dyed from blue to white.

My favourite selection from the show included a very sparkley black, slashed back, hoodie and some fantastically fun dresses embellished with sequins to form the image of 'the queen of hearts', as it was so theatrical and fun.

Shoes and accessories were minimal, with every model sporting some 'wing embellished' shoe/boots in black and the occassional trucker, baseball cap that kept the slighty 'un-glam' theme throughout the show.

Though I enjoyed the 'magpie' effect show had on me and loved the cuts and glamour, the whole collection felt a little dated. I can see why he drews the crowds, but in a week where I have seen some incredibly creative cutting and styles, this one doesn't quite match up. However I would take one of those sparkly dresses any day of the week!
