Guns blazing in the South West – Fashion

The South West is a hot bed of creative talent and that’s exactly why Fashion Enter has opened a new regional office in Bournemouth.  Based at The Enterprise Pavilion with the help and support of Matthew Desmier – Enterprise Manager. Fashion Enter opened its doors for business on Monday the 17th November and what a start!

Already Fashion Enter has received confirmation that  & Deputy Mayor’s Consort (Councillor Anne Filer & Councillor Michael Filer), BBC South West and the Daily Eco will be attending the second phase of Fashion Enters Delivery Day. Students from Fashion and Textile department will be presenting their work from the workshop: Getting it Right First Time.

This is a new styled workshop that provides real enterprise with business enabling the students to sell their work in London based stockists. On Wednesday the 26th November there will be a full review of the products and moodboards with each of the “brands” presenting to an esteemed panel which includes:

The students have been working exceptionally hard and there are some truly inspirationalpieces of work coming down to London soon! It has been a unique learning curve for the students making them aware of the constraints needed to manage your time effectively and work with people that you do not know.  The initiative has given the students an insight into time management and the importance of team work!

Vanessa will also be working on developing a Fashion Cluster in the South West and the mapping exercise has already commenced.  Market research was fully conducted by Fashion Enter before making such a bold leap and the strategic direction for fashion is perfectly aligned with that of the company.  

There are some excellent initiatives that are currently available in the South West such as the SWRDA Business Loan Fund. There is up to £10million available for a small number of ambitious firms with viable business plans which are unable to get support from commercial banks or private investors.  Loans of up to £250,000 will be available early next year. 


There is also a RDA Grant for Research and Development over a 3 year plan; Businesses can apply for between £5,000 and £500,000 depending on the type of project. The next round of funding will be release on April the 1st 2009.

The South West is a beautiful part of the country and has many charms…fashion is firmly amongst them!
