The Fashion Theatre Catwalk Show

10-12-2008

Vernon Kaye & Louise Roe

As the star-studded cast appear on stage its hard not to be a little impressed. But the audience are like wild animals. Screaming like they're at a gig girls get over-excited as a half clad model comes out and gives out a goody bag ‘to the member of the audience screaming and jumping around the most'. Vernon Kaye then proceeds to do his Naomi Campbell impression after a little encouragement. Erin O'Connor makes a small appearance and tells the audience (still screaming) how she became a model and was spotted 13 years ago at the Clothes Show Live.

The Saturdays

After this the band ‘The Saturdays' strut onto the catwalk to perform their best selling single ‘Up'. The performance is impressive for a live show and their dancing is enthusiastic and energetic. Then the show begins – properly.
As our presenters have warned us the main body of the ‘cast' are semi-naked men. This sends the crowd wild and they scream for the six-pack, seemingly ignoring the beautifully modelled clothes. The models are a mixture of elegant statement models and bubbly looking dancers.

Beautiful

The first section features stunning white dresses and beautiful dancing. Strobe lights and fancy moving screens create the illusion of an old derelict house with shattering chandeliers and broken windows.

Rave Scene!

The show then transformed into a rave scene, apparently Nu-Rave is not dead. The clothes on the stalls reflect this and kids I like to call ‘teeny boppers' were coming away with bright colours and Skull&Cross Bones prints.  The dancing was a little wild and very well choreographed as expected of a multi-million show being performed six times a day!

Sunset Dancing

The first underwear scene sponsored by triumph is beautiful. In the background is an ever-setting sun and the dancing is smooth and sensual. Ruined sadly by the sounds of girls frenzied screaming at the men. One girl a row or two in front of me felt that screaming ‘get ‘em off!' was appropriate and her friends obviously approved, call me a snob but I was disgusted. The sun sets on this beautiful performance with slow dancing and the compulsory screaming.

50's Town

The show is starting to remind me of Edward Scissorhands – the film and the Michael Bourne ballet. The identical style town that now flashes on screen is full of brightly painted houses and 50's style clothing. Happy couple wander up the catwalk arm in arm in golf style clothing and beautiful Riviera style skirts.

Speedo Show

Another scene that drives the girls (and middle aged women) wild. The bikini wearing girls and Speedo sporting men strut their stuff and a few of the men, loving their new found fan base, work the crowd, running through the aisles and gyrating their ridiculously toned bodies. I do have to admit at this point that the men are gorgeous. But really do we need to go that crazy ladies?

Gothic

The show takes a gothic turn and the show turns even darker and Tim Burton-esque as groups of 3-4 models storm up the catwalk in black, outrageous garments. This is truly beautiful and the crowd are almost silenced of their stupid screaming.

Party Time

Finale is a party scene with sparkles and suits.  The models all dance and look like they are enjoying them selves – a blessing in fashion shows!
Finally the show is over. I'm shocked at the audience reaction still but can understand the teen gimmick that makes this show incredibly popular with the audience – average age 16.
The clothes were stunning and the show impressively put together the  only problem was the audience. But you cant have it all can you?
