LFW Feb 09 – Peter Jensen

22-02-2009

Jensen was up first and playing to a seriously A-list fashion audience (Elle, Vanity Fair, Vogue UK, Vogue US and Kanye West!), it looks like London is seriously back on the map!

Jensen's collection was light and playful, with models wearing mismatched prints in a multitude of colours. There was a distinct Peruvian influence to the collection with flat leather, ankle boots, Peruvian style hats and mini, knitted ponchos being the styling of choice.

I absolutely loved the bizarre clashing prints, there were florals, waves, lumberjack style checks and enlarged dogtooth. There were all presented in a host of colours, from acid tones of pink, to metallic silver.
The collection also integrated traditional Peruvian embroideries and belts to cohesively bring the idea together.

Though there were plenty of traditional influences to the collection, the shapes were very modern.
skirt shapes included fluted A-lines and pencil silhouettes, while trousers sat at calf length and were slim cut. There were cute cardigans, detailed with frills, blouses with puffed out sleeves (at the elbow) and well-tailored jackets.

Outerwear was more bulky, with oversized jackets in bold prints being belted at the waist.

The menswear imitated its female counterpart with a mix of layered knits, slouchy trousers, printed shirting and bold printed jackets, which were again belted tightly at the waist.

Styling took the form of over-sized, structured hats, long gloves, waist belts and intricately crafted, statement necklaces.

I had a few favourite pieces, namely the dogtooth silver suit and the emerald, knit jacket with a fur trimmed hood and pom-poms.

The whole collection went so very fast though, (maybe Ann-Sofie Back was hurrying them along), so my colour sense went into overdrive. But by the whooping at the end it's fair to suggest that the fashion pack really did enjoy themselves!
