LFW Feb 09 – Victim
23-02-2009
Kooky and off the wall, this collection is not for the faint hearted. The front row mirrored this, the audience were a mixture of quirky students in asymmetric cut jackets and hair styles and a few fashion veterans in veils, sunglasses, true vintage and some flashes of bold colour.
Taiwanese designer Mel's Victoriana inspired collection of dresses, skirts and blouses are in your face in all their wicked glory. The muse for this collection was a nightmarish beautiful villain, and she was loosened for one day to walk the runway.
The styling was stunning. Donning shredded, torn tights, killer million-inch heels with wild hair and blood red lips the models took to the runway. Thigh high boots with gold leaf tops almost stole the show for some!
Lace mini dress after lace mini dress came onto the runway and somewhere an innocent's skin was crawling. Admittedly the collection was a lot to digest – the colour palette was not too overwhelming thankfully, Mel kept to blacks, creams, whites, pinks and reds. Shredded lace levelled dresses bunched down the bodies without appearing too heavy. Key details were the cut-out lace-filled elbows and the pearl and glittering sequin trails dancing their way around the dresses.
The buzz word for this collection was rebellion, romance and pure raw edges.
The final show of the day, and by all means the most bizarre. Victim customers will love this collection; it follows on closely from her previous collection with very similar key pieces. It is vintage flea market chic at first glance but offers more to those bold enough to take it on.
