Seaside City Style
24-02-2009

This week I headed into central Brighton to see what the ladies on the street are stepping out in.

First up, exposed zip detail certainly appears to be taking this seaside city by storm. Unmasking the usually concealed is no new thing, underwear-as-outerwear has been around for some time, but putting your zips on show hasn't been on trend since the mid 80s. Now we've all pretty much got the intense 80s throwback 'thang' out of our systems, more subtle detailing now enables us to ensure the funk still shines through. Particularly appealing are neon exposed zips, adding that extra special something to the LBD.

The great thing about the exposed zip is that there is something out there for everyone. A chic day look can be achieved by keeping it simple and not overdoing the zip, accomplished fabulously with this uncomplicated Chloe dress. ASOS also do a fabulous line in exposed zip detailing, particularly this beautiful pink top, perfect to dress up or down.

For something a little more glam, this delicious Hervé Léger Sequin bandage dress has an exposed zip detail at the back, and certainly is a show stopper!

Another growing trend here at the seaside is the delicate and subtle use of café au lait nudes. For the brave fashionistas amongst us, utilising subtle nude tones and spaghetti straps can highlight even a hint of a tan, and keeping your hem line above the knee can showcase your pins to perfection. If slathering yourself in skin-tones leaves something to be desired, sophisticated camel coloured or nude shoes can elongate the leg and look delightful for both work and play.

Although Spring is just around the corner, those sea breezes are still very much in situ, and the wardrobe staple that is the cardigan is as popular as ever. Teaming a plain vintage cardigan with a chic skinny belt and flamboyant silk scarf will keep you looking wonderful and keep you warm! Alternatively, combining textures and teaming a chunky cardi with a simple and sophisticated cocktail dress can create a daytime look to die for! Throw on some Jackie O' sunglasses and chic little gloves are you are good to go!
